Yes, you are likely going to tick some people off, yes you may burn some bridges, but unfortunately that’s part of it. That’s part of why it’s a difficult decision. The key is being able to explain your stance in a calm, non-emotional manner and being able to defend it when questioned.

In the IT industry, continual training is a must. The lifecycle of any product, language or service is more condensed than that of most industries. Learning how to lead your team towards the proper training will ensure ongoing success and increased productivity.

One of the biggest challenges you will face a new (or experienced) leader is getting to know your team. I’m not talking about knowing their specific talents and skills; I’m talking about getting to know them as a person. Some managers will tell you to avoid building a personal relationship with the individuals you manage. I’m going to tell you that those individuals are fools for not taking advantage of this powerful tool.
